To the fringe...

 A happy Harry awoke at 9 am. I had to dangle a £10 infront of his sleepy eyes before he could get out of bed.

 Joined by Silas...

 And a few hours later, planks, guitars and suitcases had arrived at 6 Abercromby Place. The start of the adventure.

With only one night before the show starts we spent a good few hours nailing up the box...well worth it I believe.

Meet the cast: Emily Bairstow

I’m Emily Bairstow and I play the wonderful character Kit in Phantasmagoria. I am so tremendously excited to be involved in part two of this incredible play’s journey. Having played Kit in the first performances in Manchester I hoped that I would feel more confident about playing her again, but when I received the revised script and realised how much the piece had altered- my irrational fears reappeared. For me, the most worrying aspect of the character is the fact that (without revealing too much) she is extremely unwell throughout the play. I am extremely energetic, annoyingly active and loud as a person, which means that portraying this element of my character has been a struggle from the start. However watching a couple of wonderful performances from such actresses as Susan Sarandon in Stepmom really has helped me a great deal. The other main worry I have is the fact that most of my scenes in hospital are followed by flashbacks to childhood memories where I have to be full of life and lose all inhibitions- this in itself is very hard (especially when Phoebe who plays Hawker is so naturally amazing at it!), but having transform into this from an extremely ill character is very hard indeed. 
I love the free nature of my character; the naked painting, the organic life she leads, and I genuinely feel I could learn a lot from this person. She is so calm and easy going which is proving to be very healthy for me to play as it seems to be counterbalancing my naturally nervous and stressed disposition. I also love the relationship between Hawker and Kit. They are so clearly inseparable and no matter how much they wind one another up their relationship seems to be ever growing stronger.  
I cannot express how excited I am for Edinburgh, not only for the play, but also to have many more fun times with such a wonderfully talented and tight cast! Roll on the 15th August please!

It's the end of a very intense time, it has been b-e-a-u-tiful and phantasmagoria is now ready to be shown. I will see you tomorrow. Cast and crew, thanks for a phantastic time.

Day 5

Verging on virgin.

DAY 4

The bat signal is in the sky. Hawkwoman, Warrior Princess, Black Cat Baristow and Captain Herefordshire assemble! The Edinburgh Avengers are now complete.

The whole cast assembled. And then slowly cooked in a very hot rehearsal room.  

Pigeon boy strikes with a direct hit. HOLY SHcrIpT. One bird pooh for good luck and we went home to cook chicken.

Ruby and Josh explored a number of improvised scenes, one of which where they played themselves as if waking up next to each other one morning after an accidental night of passion. 

Meet the Cast: Matt Holt

Hello there, I'm Matt and I'll be playing Robin. Robin is a simple good hearted fellow who loves nothing more than to chat about the weather with a seven year old girl whilst chowing down on some red kidney beans. This is actually my favourite pastime so I immediately felt at one with him.

His best friend is Hawker, the aforementioned seven year old. Whilst Hawker seems older than her years, Robin could be considered the opposite, finding more in common with her than anyone else in the play.
He remains a caring, faithful and innocent feature throughout the drama that unfolds around him.

I was originally drawn to the part due to the description of Robin as 'weird and goofy' and a big personal challenge for me will be to make Robin my own weird and goofy. In the original run he was played by someone else (someone who happens to be the king of weird and goofy) so I will try to take inspiration from him but at the same time forge my own Robin out of the dust created by his big, departing shoes. Whether I will fill those shoes, or merely resole the tattered remnants of what they once were remains to be seen, but by gum, hoist up the sails and some other rousing phrase will I give it a good go.
