The script has yet to be finished, the cast are being patient, if slightly concerned! This week we led a series of warm-up rehearsals for the three ladies. The dynamic between the three actresses is already very easy, which makes our job easier. We worked on character, putting them in different scenarios and encouraging them to improvise. Becky and Todd led the rehearsals and I took notes which helped me when I came to re-working the script during the week. The girls improvised scenes that varied from in a playground to at a drinks party. Zena, who plays the character of Florrie, was really pushed this week. She plays a character who is the quietest and most reserved of the three. This often means that the other two girls gang up on her. One improvisation scenario involved the girls persuading her to commandeer a boat before coercing her to skinny-dip and stealing her clothes. While watching the rehearsals I was struck by how much definite and strong friendships do toe the line of bullying. Old friends can be the harshest critics. The moments when the girls veered towards animosity in their improvisations were really shocking and I hope that dynamic will be evident on stage. On the last day of rehearsals we said goodbye to the Martin Harris Centre and officially finished our degree at the University of Manchester.
Love Tallulah
