Hello!
I'm Ruby and I'm playing Malone in the play. She's a complex character and in some ways challenging as she's quite removed from myself- particularly in her spontaneous and flighty ways. In other slightly worrying ways I think we are rather similar - her moody and cynical nature perhaps. (Emily likes to point this out) Although Id like to think she's a lot darker than me!
My excitement and anxiety are in equal measure at the moment as I start rehearsals on Monday with only a week before the preview show!
Without giving too much of the plot away- one anxiety I have involves playing a child at points in the piece. The other girls; Zena, Emily and Phoebe are amazing at it and I want to do justice to little Malone as well. I'm very conscious of bad adult-kid acting and want to keep the realism of the piece. However I have no contact with children in my life, I'm the baby of the family! Here's a YouTube video I found that I found really useful. It's a little girl teaching her dad about whales. The amount of energy she uses is so funny. Also I realised how children 'act' like adults. So what we've got to do is be adults trying to act like children who try to act like adults!
(Replace the American accent with an English one and thus is what I'm going for!)
